The Area

The Writer's Retreat is on the outskirts of Cynwyd, at the very edge of the Berwyn Range.  Within minutes of us, you'll be able to join the North Berwyn Way, and the captivating beauty of the local countryside.  An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Berwyns and the Dee Valley remain comparatively unspoiled when compared with the holiday crowds of Snowdonia and it is perfectly possible to walk for hours without running into anyone else, even in the summer.  Immerse yourself in the breathtaking landscapes that encompass heathered peaks, cascading waterfalls, and lush valleys. You'll find tranquillity and a sense of connection to the awe-inspiring countryside. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or a casual explorer, the area promises an enchanting journey that will leave you refreshed and rejuvenated.

Close to us, you'll find plenty of things to do.  History buffs will find the area steeped in stories of the past, with Owain Glyndŵr, the last Welshman to hold the title of Prince Of Wales, having many connections to the local area.  There's fun to be had on the River Dee in summer and for rail enthusiasts, the newly opened Corwen rail station connects you to Llangollen along a beautiful track.  Travel by diesel and steam in this amazing entirely volunteer-run railway.

If you decide that you want to eat out, there are a host of great eateries nearby, from an award-winning curry house to traditional pub food.  And the Rhug Estate just down the road on the A5 does the best organic burgers we've ever tasted.

If you are looking to travel further afield then the A5 is a couple of miles away, opening up the whole of North Wales for you to explore - Mountains, Castles, Mines and adventure are all within easy reach.  There's a great public transport system of buses if you've come without a car.

If you want to find out more about the area, visit Corwen.wales where you'll be able to find many things to help your stay.

Louise & John were fabulous hosts to my husband. John met my husband at the end of the road and a late check in was no problem. Would highly recommend
